I am twenty-one years old. I am over six feet tall, and this is a burden, for there are not many men who are over six feet tall. Ever have the people pointed to me and frowned and said: "There is evil in your bones, for your body has grown beyond the bodies of your brothers." But I cannot change my bones nor my body.

It was not that the learning was too hard for me. It was that the learning was too easy. This is a great sin, to be born with a head which is too quick. It is not good to be different from my brothers, but it is evil to be superior to them. The Teachers told me so, and they frowned when they looked upon me. So I fought against this curse. I tried to forget my lessons, but I always remembered. I tried not to understand what the Teachers taught, but I always understood it before the Teachers had spoken. I looked upon others who were with only half a brain, and I tried to say and do as they did, that I might be like them, but somehow the Teachers knew that I was not.
